Reiki is a hands-on therapeutic energetic process that reduces or alleviates pain, discomfort and brings about a sense of emotional balance. It originated in India and eventually was carried to the Tibetan monasteries where it was used as a method of self-healing on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual planes.
It was later imparted to a Japanese physician, Dr. Mikao Usui, after many years of his study and research. Reiki energy is safe, non-invasive and moves through clothing so the person receiving Reiki does not have to get undressed. It has gained great popularity over the last few years and it is not uncommon to find it used in hospitals.
Carol once used it on a client in the post op recovery room on a client following his extensive back surgery. The nursing staff commented that after the Reiki treatment, the patient did not need as much pain medication as usual, which they deemed a plus. Reiki ultimately reduces pain, accelerates healing and quells anxiety – very relaxing. It can be learned by anyone and also can be applied to animals and plants – all living things.
